This role is for a Member of Technical Staff (MTS 1) Engineer on the Compliance Investigations India team, which supports critical initiatives across the Investigations domain at PayPal. You will be part of a fast paced team that owns the Compliance Technology platform and is focused on driving efficiency through automation and improving the productivity of our employees. We are looking for an experienced engineer who will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. A successful candidate will have a proven background in developing Java backend applications, strong technical ability, great communication skills and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

The Compliance Investigations team, is part of the global Compliance Platform Technology organization with colleagues in India, US, Ireland, Singapore and Central America. Our team is composed of mid to senior-level engineers, and is focused on challenges like optimizing API performance, delivering architectural improvements for greater scalability and providing our teammates with the tools and platforms they need to excel.

- Participate in the full development lifecycle, including design, coding, automated testing, and production releases of backend services
- Provide technical and domain thought-leadership and mentor teammates to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement
- Deliver code in an agile team environment.
- Review and approve software design and implemented code.
- Identify areas of technical improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.
- Maintain and enhance existing architectural documentation and create new documentation artefacts as needed
Your day to day:
- Be a part of a software development team that is part of a larger technology organization spanning multiple locations.
- Participate in efforts to optimize processes, workflows, and developer experiences, so that every day our work can be more streamlined and efficient.
- Build prototypes and educate the business of new technologies and techniques
- Participate in brainstorming discussions to drive optimal design for business needs making the right trade-offs.
- Partner with business units, product management, program management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and high quality.
- Collaborate with cross functional engineering and product teams to evolve the Compliance Technology platform.
What do you need to bring:
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with 9-10 years of software development experience
- Experience building a scalable, production-grade micro-services/API based platform.
- Strong programming abilities in Java or any other high level language
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
- Experience with architectural patterns and designs.
- Solid understanding of concepts like Web Services, SOA, REST APIs, Message Queue, Distributed/Scalable Architecture.
- Experience in developing backend services in Java, Spring, Hibernate.
- Expertise with Relational databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Should exhibit strong leadership and exceptional technical skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Cloud Platforms such as Google Cloud is a plus
- Experience with modern JS framework React, Angular etc is a plus
- Experience building Node.js APIs, applications, and workers.
- Knowledge of modern container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Any exposure in Fintech/Compliance/Regulatory Tech is a plus
